10 Tips to increase performance and speed of your PC or Laptop

Higher configuration, top processor, awesome RAM, lots of space all these does not count when the system is not used properly. Though you may have the top end system, improper usage will make the PC or Laptop slow.

In order to speed up your PC or Laptop follow some simple steps to get the best of it.

1) Avoid too many start-ups

Avoid too many soft wares that run during start up. This will consume high amount of RAM. Your system won't be ready until all the programs are loaded after the boot. Avoid as many as you can. Simple soft wares like Yahoo messenger, Gtalk etc can be disabled during start up. By default they are set to run during windows start up. Disable them because they can be loaded manually very quickly.

You can disable the unnecessary soft wares by typing "msconfig" in the windows run command (windows key + R) and click on "start up" tab. Uncheck the unwanted programs. Be careful don't disable the system core programs. There are few soft wares which do this job with single click for you. The most popular one is CCleaner.

2) Save Space on C

The C partition on your system is primary core partition of your system. This is the place where your operating system and other essential soft wares get installed. In order to load windows smoothly and quickly save as much space as you can on C drive. Don't load up the C drive with unnecessary soft wares  It's better to install games on other partitions (D or E or any other).

If your PC or Laptop doesn't have partitions it's better to backup your data to external hard disk , partition your system and re-install the OS on C. Move all least important files or soft wares to other partitions. Note that the files saved on desktop will also count on C drive. Delete or move files from desktop to other drives.

3) Delete unwanted files

Whenever you use system there will accumulation of junk files, cache, registry files, recent files history, temporary files.

These are all unwanted files which occupy space depending on the usage. The more you use the more is the junk. Delete all these files either manually or with many soft wares available out there. The most popularly used soft wares are CCleanerSystem MechanicNorton UtilitiesAdvance System Care

NOTE: DO NOT INSTALL ALL THE SYSTEM OPTIMIZING SOFT WARES AND MAKE A DOG AND CAT FIGHT AMONG THEM. USE ANY ONE OF THE PROGRAM MENTIONED ABOVE OR ANY ONE OF YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE.

4) Remove the duplicates

It is quite common that we duplicate our data on our own system. Many files are saved more than once and we even forget about it. Delete all the duplicate data by using available soft wares likeDuplicate file finder or Duplicate cleaner.

5) Avoid multiple protections

It is obvious that a PC requires a solid protection these days. You need an anti-virus, a fire wall, browsing protection, removable storage device protection and many more. You need not install multiple soft wares for these actions. The most common mistake done here is, many users install an antivirus software and a different third party firewall software. Things may seem smooth initially when these two start performing. But things get ugly when they both fight with each other. This experience gets worse when you install a new software or soft wares.

Let me give you an example. You try to install a program which needs to communicate with Internet. When you execute the setup file, finish the installation and launch the program immediately the antivirus and firewall will compete for authorizing this action (whether to allow or not from accessing the Internet). This could become a hectic process when you install many programs.

So better install a single security suite that has all the options like firewall, antivirus, browsing protection etc.

Never use multiple soft wares that have similar functions.

6) Delete the left overs

When you uninstall a program there will left overs in the form of registry files and left overs. You can delete the registry left overs using Registry Mechanic or Registry Cleaner. If you want to delete them immediately after the installation use Revo Uninstaller.

Uninstall any program using Revo uninstaller. After the uninstall is done it will prompt you to scan for registry files overs and other left files. Scan with it and delete immediately after the uninstall process is done. Further Revo comes with handy tools like junk file cleaner, evidence eraser, system tools and many more.

7)  Defragment your Disk

Defragmentation is the process by which the contents in the device are physically organized into smaller spaces there by giving you more space. This process must be done regularly at periodic intervals. Do it at least once in a month.

To execute this operation, right click on your hard disk partition (C or D or E) and select properties. Now click on the tools tab and select defragment disk. This process will take a lot of time. So be patient and defragment all your partitions once in a month.

8) Permanently delete the files

Most of us delete unwanted images, songs, videos or soft wares by classic "shift + delete" keys or by deleting from recycle bin. This does not make the file delete permanently. You can recover them with many options. Since these actions are remembered on device's memory we can recover them. So these files aren't permanently deleted. They still occupy some space. To delete all these files permanently use File Shredder.

With this program you can safely and permanently delete unwanted files without being able to get recovered.

9) Always monitor the available free space

Constantly monitor how much space is available on your PC or Laptop.Always have an optimum level of free space. If you exceed this space delete or uninstall any unwanted files and programs. You can monitor the space with Space Sniffer.

10) Understand Your Desktop or Laptop

Have a clear idea about the capabilities and functions of your system. Never install programs which slow down the PC. Don't touch the heavy programs which your PC can't handle like heavy games, high RAM consuming soft wares etc.

Install programs that utilize optimum hardware resources that are within the limits of your system's configuration.

VERDICT
Every system needs maintenance even though you have highest configuration. Use the tools and your system
properly and have a buttery smooth performance.
