Facebook's New Feature lets you add a contact who can manage your Facebook Profile after you die

Now you can be immortal on Facebook and not turn up in your grave because Facebook will allow you to name somebody really close to manage your Facebook page after you die.

Facebook has just unveiled a new ‘Legacy Contacts’ feature which lets you manage your profile after you die.

Facebook’s latest move to enable a legacy contact just highlights the fact that social networking has become a part and parcel of family andsocial life. Your facebook page may become a family heirloom in a distant future after you die, and Facebook has taken care of the fact that nobody other than the person can touch your Facebook page in case you decide to meet the maker.

Announcing the Legacy Contact, Facebook stated that, “Facebook is a place to share and connectwith friends and family. For many of us, it’s also a place to remember and honor those we’ve lost. When a person passes away, their account can become a memorial of their life, friendships and experiences.”

With the Legacy Contact feature your pre decided Facebook heir/heiress can,

  • Write a post to display at the top of the memorialized Timeline (for example, to announce a memorial service or share a special message) 
  • Respond to new friend requests from family members and friends who were not yet connected on Facebook 
  • Update the profile picture and cover photo

Here is how to set up the Legacy Feature :

Open your settings. Choose Security and then Legacy Contact at the bottom of the page.

Facebook has also taken care of the Facebook users who want to die peaceful without any digital footprint. The Legacy Feature has an option which lets Facebook users have their Facebookaccount deleted after death.
